Blocking unwanted sites or IPs with the hosts file (mac)

Do any of you know anything about this?

here is a link to the Mac How To: http://www.aetas.dk/2012/04/blocking-un ... osts-file/

Steve Solberg is looking for s "Mac-ie" to discuss this on an October 6th SPCUG SIG. Here is a copy of the email he sent me:

Chuck, I plan on doing a SIG on Internet Security on Oct 6th 10:00AM at SSAC will you be able to make it? It's open to all spcug members. Would you be able to answer any questions pertaining to the MAC OS and how to use some of the security settings I will be talking about at least as they pertain to the Mac?

I'll send you some info later on what I'll be talking about, but besides basic browser security I will touch on using the "hosts" file and changing your DNS settings for a start. You can brush up on your Mac hosts here: https://support.apple.com/kb/TA27291?viewlocale=en_US

Thanks
Steve

Thanks,
