iPad vs. magnet

Post by KarenColes » Sun Dec 08, 2013 9:18 pm

I just got a new iPad mini w/retina display. It fits easily in the purse I carry, but I'm wondering about the magnetic clasp that holds the purse shut. Should I have any concerns about the magnet affecting the iPad in any way?

iPads interact with powerful rare-earth magnets out of the box. That's what holds the "magic" covers on, and holds them closed.

MacBooks interact with rare earth magnets out of the box. That's what holds the power connector in place--and what lets it pull out if you trip over the cord.

To damage magnetic media in any modern computing device requires huge electromagnets, many times the weight of the device.

Bottom line: don't worry about a purse clasp. Unless, of course, the purse clasp separates, allowing the iPad mini to fall onto concrete. :o
