New MacBook Air

Post by Ray Bentsen » Wed Jul 20, 2011 9:56 am

Apple today announced a new MacBook Air.

The size, weight, screen resolution and price are the same, but differences in the 11" model include:
• a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor (was a 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo)
• optional upgrade from 2GB to 4GB DDR3 memory (+$200)
• pre-loaded with Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion)
* Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphic chipset (was NVIDIA GeForce 320M)
• Thunderbolt port (was Mini DisplayPort)
• backlit keyboard

The 13" model has the same features, except offers two faster processors (a 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 and a 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i7) and has 4GB memory standard.

An old Norse adage: Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

That backlit keyboard sure sounds nice.

Any news on whether the new MBA and mini boot into Snow Leopard? If so, the mini or the Air might be the machine of choice for those who need to keep a Snow Leopard running.

BTW, I think dropping the MacBook comes as the Air can take over its slot. I'd sure rather have an Air than an MacBook. That 11" model is pretty close to the ideal second (or third) Mac.
