Safari v10.0

Post by Richard Serkes » Tue Sep 20, 2016 5:20 pm

I haven't downloaded the new macOS yet (Sierra) but I did download the new version of Safari (v10.0) which is recommended for users of macOS El Capitan (v10.11.x). The new Safari is suppose to have some security updates as well as run videos in HTML5 whenever possible avoiding Flash and all it's problems. Fine. But it has an unexpected plus as far as I can tell without any benchmark numbers.

It's a screamer! Everything loads a lot faster. And websites that just wouldn't run video in the old Safari necessitating my flipping over to Chrome will now display video in the new Safari. This is most excellent.

Did you try New York Times video? I've got another half hour to wait for Sierra (after an all-night download). I didn't update Safari in El Capitan.
I can almost never get NYT videos to load properly. YouTube, etc. download OK, if slowly.

I just watched three videos on the NY Times website. Seems to work just fine.

I've got Sierra up and running now, but our internet is still getting hammered with updates. I'll wait until that calms down to see if the NYT ScienceTake videos work. Otherwise, I haven't seen any improvement in Safari's speed.

Spinning beach balls all the time.

Weird! It's working just fine on my MacBook and my wife's Mac Mini.

I'm not seeing any beachballs, but I still can't view The New York Times ScienceTakes videos. I get the sound, with little or no video. All other video sources seem to work fine.

As to general use of Safari 10, it seems about the same as I've been used to.

Boy, for me, the new Safari is a screamer! Really fast. Playing everything quickly, snappily, and with no problems! I tried NY Times Videos and a bunch of other video sources. Could not get it to hiccup. This is running under Sierra on my MacBookPro. Count me pleased (for now....)
