I am unable to find a simple way to add photographer name to a batch of images. Is there a simple approach?

Are you trying to add text on the image like a label? (See image below.)
If so, you can do it in a few ways. A google search on "aperture 3 add text to photo" turns up lots of information.

You can export an image with a watermark, and add your text that way.
You can make a book and use all the book-making features, then just save the resulting labeled image.
You can get a plugin for Aperture. I see BorderFX mentioned a lot: http://www.iborderfx.com/BorderFX/ (It's donationware.)

I do text on frames of video in Final Cut Pro X (see image). For labeling stills, I switch to Photoshop and use its extensive text tools. Any image manipulation software should do as well.

If you just want to keep text associated with an image and in a database, Aperture's Caption field holds unlimited text and is fully searchable.
