Try leaving it plugged in for several hours to make sure the battery is charged. Then do a hard boot. That consists of SIMULTANEOUSLY holding down the home button and the on/off button until the Apple logo appears. if this doesn't do the trick you may have a brick that needs to go to an Apple Store for repair.

But consider the age of your iPad. You said it's a version 2. The current iPad Air 2 is really iPad version 6 and version 7 will be introduced next month. I just don't know if it's a good idea to put any money into a device as old as your iPad 2. It may be time for a new iPad.

Maybe Santa could make an early visit this year. Have you been naughty or nice?

FWIW, we have been using our iPad Pro about ten times as much as we used our older iPad 3.
Looking at that now, it seems a little spare.
We first bought an iPad for my wife's elderly mother. We found we had a hard time supporting her (and caretakers) because we didn't have an iPad ourselves. So we bought our iPad 3. It did the job, but we found it essentially replaced our "downstairs" MacBook for most things, and we used it much more than we'd imagined.

After I updated to an iPad Pro (to get the Pencil, mostly) we've found ourselves using our iPad even more. It's not only our "downstairs" computer, but I've read a lot on it, and I use it quite a bit to stream Apple Music. Slideshows on the iPad Pro are fantastic, as are books with graphics*.

I just meant to say that you probably can't go wrong updating to a newer iPad.

* For example, the wonderful graphic book The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage: The (Mostly) True Story of the First Computer. Highly recommended for any SMUG member interested in the history of computing.
