What's the 'E' On My iPhone?

Post by Richard Serkes » Tue Jun 28, 2011 5:41 am

I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 4.x (whatever is the most current as of 6/28/11). In the upper left-hand corner it usually says 3G when I'm out and about but last night it said E. I checked carefully and it definitely had an E rather than 3G.

What does E stand for?

Your battery is on Empty or you are living on the Edge.
The E stands for Edge Network. If you're in an area where 3G coverage is spotty or unavailable your phone will automatically drop you down to the slower EDGE network.
