Apple TV

Post by Stephen Hart » Wed Oct 07, 2015 2:27 pm

So it looks increasing like the Apple television various sites have been producing is, in fact Apple TV, on steroids.
(To my mind, it never made any sense for Apple to compete with a dozen companies selling dozens of different TV screen sizes, curves, etc.)

If only the Siri Remote would do things like switch from Wide to Normal! And switch inputs! And if only Turner Classic Movies would get on board!

One big frustration with Apple TV 4 has been fixed:

Remote 4.2.3 adds functionality for Apple TV 4, similar to what it had wit Apple TV 3.

Based on my experience with setup last night, you need to update both the Remote app to 4.2.3 and the Apple TV OS to get Remote working on iPhones and iPads.
I also noticed that if one device is controlling Apple TV 4, another device can't. You need to get out of the Remote app on one. I'll experiment more with this.

Here's Apple's Apple TV 4 User Manual:

Contrary to what I read, I didn't find setup without the Remote app any more difficult than past Apple TVs. The onscreen keyboard is linear instead of a grid of letters, but swiping the remote is so fast and fluid that that change didn't bother me.

I wish Apple would link iTunes up and show apps for Apple TV there.
