cannot cancel command to copy

Post by anne murray » Fri Jul 17, 2015 7:01 pm

I started to copy large photo files from a thumb drive to my hard drive. About one third the way through I decided that I did not want to do that. I clicked the "x" in the copy window but cannot cancel the original command. The copy window has been reading "stopping" for many minutes. I cannot restart the computer because a finder command is in process.

Is it safe to "force quit" the finder?

Thanks so much.

Yes, you can force quit the finder.

Thanks, Richard. I started force quit of the finder and got frightened when it said "continue installation." So, I aborted and restarted the computer and all seems to be fine.

Down in my cool basement - the only good place to be this afternoon - save on water.

You may find that some of the files that were being copied are now corrupted and won't open. Just delete them.
