Re: iCloud Backups

First off, I am able to do a complete backup and restore phones with all of my content. I get a new phone just about every year, and back up solely to iCloud. When I do a restore from iCould, ALL of my content is on the new phone exactly as it was on the old phone...
Maybe I have the wrong impression. But when I got a replacement iPhone 5 in the Tacoma Apple Store, the genius set it up and initiated the restore. I did not have all of my apps on the phone after that restore was done. I didn't care, and just synced when I got home.

Also I don't see where Apple says you have a complete (or "full" ) backup when using iCloud:

"Learn how to use iCloud or iTunes to back up and restore the most important content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?view ... cale=en_US

iTunes says "Back up the most important data on your iPhone to iCloud."

This Apple article has a section on what iCloud backs up, but it's not clear on what it doesn't back up:
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12519
For example, iCloud backs up App data, but maybe not the apps themselves. This is what I think I got at the Apple Store.

This statement from the document is very clear about contacts, calendars, etc. as I pointed out above.
"Your iOS device backup only includes data and settings stored on your device. It doesn't include data already stored in iCloud, for example contacts, calendars, bookmarks, mail messages, notes, shared photo streams, My Photo Stream, and documents you save in iCloud using iOS apps and Mac apps."

One thing I think I got wrong above:
From what I can see, automatic backup when syncing in iTunes to your own Mac takes place once a day, not every time you sync.
Still, at any time, you can click Back Up Now.

"Calendar couldn’t connect to cal.me.com. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, and then try again later." is the message I get when I click on a symbol near my iCloud calendars on my iMac. I recently updated to Mavericks to get good use of iCloud and have my important things updated on my iPad. Is it because the iCloud on my iMac uses the old me.com and can't be changed on the iMac. Do I need to delete the me.com account and try to set it all up again using the iCloud address? How do I do that? I know my calendar is not updating on iCloud but I need to enter something new in my contacts and see if that is updating on iCloud. I've spend hours trying to figure this out. I've read all the troubleshooting on the Apple site I think. What am I overlooking? Thanks.

I think all you need to do is go to Calendar > Accounts. That'll take you to System Preferences > Internet Accounts.

Sign in to your iCloud account and make sure there's a checkmark for every thing you want to sync.

I don't recall any problems with this after updating to Mavericks.
