desktop & screen saver freezeup

Post by swifty » Sun May 22, 2011 7:38 am

I hadn't looked at the above for a while, but when I did just recently, I found that the window froze on me and all I could do was a force quit out of system preferences. Here is what I saw when I opened the window. Any suggestions?

Trash these files

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.screensaver.<12digitHex Number>.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

If that doesn't work trash this one
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

It's also possible that there's a long delay because the screensaver/desktop pane is trying to display your whole iPhoto collection to let you choose images. Normally, that can cause a delay, but not a real freeze. But if there's a single file in the iPhoto collection that's damaged, the process could grind to a halt.

Eureka,

The third trash did the trick. That's a relief. Dick

I just googled the question on my way out the door (had to hit the road to West End Thunder, pic I took this morning below unrelated to this post) and pasted the answer I found. This internet thing might just prove useful.
