Numbers for iOS

Post by Stephen Hart » Thu Nov 29, 2012 2:57 pm

Is anyone in SMUG using Numbers for iOS?

What I wonder is if you can create a password-protected file on your Mac, sync it with an iOS device (for example with Dropbox or iCloud), then open it and edit in iOS. The crucial thing is that it retain its password protection after editing in iOS.

Pages can do all of this except that if you edit on the iPhone, the password disappears in the iCloud version.

The same thing happens in iOS Numbers ... and you even get a reminder when opening a password protected file. (see iPhone screenshot).

Bummer!

Note that in Pages at least, the reminder is false. Opening a file does not remove the password. Only editing the file does. I've tested this.

Thanks for checking, Ray.
