iTunes U Syncing? SOLVED

Post by Stephen Hart » Wed Sep 21, 2011 8:44 am

I listen to a lot of iTunes U content, and have run into my first problem, or at least question.

When I plug in my iPhone, let it sync, then select the phone and the iTunes U tab, I don't see all the collections available. They're all there in the iTunes U section of iTunes. Anyone else see anything similar?

So what do your iTunesU settings look like?

The default setting is to only load items that are unplayed. (see screenshot)

Unless you have changed that setting, played items will be removed whenever you sync.

I hand-check iTunes U items because I have a few collections that are large sets of video--college classes, for example.

The problem is that the column of collections doesn't include all the collections shown in the iTunes U section of iTunes.

This issue came up again, this time regarding podcasts.
It must be related to having too much to sync. But iTunes isn't showing me all of the podcasts, so I can't tell it not to sync big video podcasts, for example.
I temporarily solved the problem by choosing Automatically include 3 most recent. But if I ask it to sync select podcasts, only 5 of 11 podcasts are showing.

Did you try scrolling the podcast list? I only happen to have two podcasts in the list, but I do have more than five TV shows, and the TV show list only shows the first five unless you scroll. This being Lion, a scrollable list doesn't really look any different than a non scrolling list.

Ha. I just figured this out, then saw your post as I was about to post the solution.

Yes, I got bit by Lion. The problem is that in iTunes, the scroll bar does not appear when you move the pointer into the box. You have to scroll up or down, then the bar appears. Added to that, the box in iTunes holds exactly 5 podcasts or iTunes U collections, with no visual indication that there's anything else there.

This is kind of odd because I've been using Lion for months and never have had a problem with the now-you-see-it-now-you-don't scrollbars.
