This is also an iOS5 topic as the change didn't happen until after I loaded iOS5 on my iPad2. If you look at the keyboard icon in the lower right hand corner you'll notice some light hatch marks on the right side of the icon. I'd never seen those in previous iOSs.
Hold the keyboard icon down and you'll notice some new options. One lets you split the keyboard so you can type just using your thumbs as if your iPad were an iPhone.
Play with it for some fun.
