Download Files From iPad Air?

Here's what I'd like to do... I want to connect my GPS to my iPad so I can download files from a geocaching website directly into my GPS when I'm out and about. Right now I have to connect the GPS to my iMac via a USB cable that came with the GPS. Then I go to the website, select the files I want to download and they go directly into my GPS.

There is an Apple iPad USB adapter (see below) which will allow you to connect a digital camera to your iPad. The description says that when you do this the iPad automatically opens the Photos App. I'm wondering if I could just close the Photos App, go online to the geocaching website and download the files from there to my GPS. I think I remember reading that this adapter is not a "universal" adapter in that it doesn't let you do much more that connect a camera. Is that right?

Before I pony up $29 I'd like to know if my plan is feasible.

Well, phooey! But at least I won't waste my time and money buying the adapter only to have to return it. Thanks!

Oh, baby, baby, it's a wifi world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wifi world...
With apologies to Cat Stevens.
