iPhone stereo microphone

Post by Stephen Hart » Mon May 04, 2015 3:20 pm

We've never had a quality microphone, though we've recorded with a MacBook Pro and an iPhone on occasion.

Recently I bought a Røde i-XY microphone.
This is a better-than-CD-quality stereo mic for iPhones. The mic itself has two plastic inserts. One fits iPhone 4 and the other iPhone 5-6. On a 5, it’s tight enough that one should practice a bit to gain confidence. On the 6, it’s smooth and worry free.
With the $6.00 Rode Rec app, you can save in many formats, up to 24-bit, 96kHz, and have lots of options, and you can do editing in the app.
The foam windscreen is pretty tight, and you need to pull it on like a sock. It’ll probably get looser with use. And it’s easy to make (or buy) a dead kitten.

I’m thinking we can use it if my wife wants to record quartets, etc. or if we want some ambient sound out in the field or even as an off-camera or on-camera mic for video recording with my Lumix FZ1000 camera.

See this SMUG thread.
