Puzzle over Tags in Quicken Essentials

Post by Kirsten Ruhl » Sun Jan 08, 2012 10:54 am

Moving right along with learning and using Quicken Essentials.
Discovering a few "quirks" along the way. I will address them later as they become either more clear or more bothersome...

However, I would like right now to become clear on behavior of "Tags".

I just set up a couple of them and added them on an account "Register".
The result was that the order of entries got changed. No longer did the dates dictate the order of listing entries, but entries seemed to group by Tag instead. From my point of view not very desirable behavior...

Does this indicate something important about tags or account registers I have not yet discovered? :?

I don't use tags, but unless they do something unlike other columns, I suspect you may have selected the Tags column, or it becomes selected automatically. If you select the Date column again (and you might have to select ascending or descending again), that should fix the issue.

Stephen,
It certainly did fix the issue!

And for you Lion users out there, help is on the way with a promised update to Quicken 2007:

Isn't it great that Intuit is going to add a patch or two to a program that's five years old just so it'll run on an OS that's already been out for months?

Well, Quicken did, in fact, replace Quicken 200n, with Quicken Essentials. That was available before Lion.

There have been two categories of complaints about QE.

1. The user interface isn't the same as before. IMO this is not a legitimate complaint because the user interface is much better.
2. QE is missing some features that were in Quicken 200n. This is a legitimate complaint if you need those features. And, from what I can gather from the very extensive discussion on Macintouch, there's no really good alternative to staying with Snow Leopard and Quicken 2007. I don't use any of those features--such as printing checks, bill pay from within Quicken and stock tracking--so I'm happy with QE, for the most part.
