Fake Apple Stores

Post by Stephen Hart » Sun Jul 31, 2011 7:54 pm

Here's a little rundown of the many news stories about fake Apple stores in China, from Language Log, a blog by academic linguists.

As it turns out, my son Robbie has been in this store, and recently. He's doing research in the mountains near Lijiang, north of Kunming, and gets to Kunming fairly frequently.

He says the store has genuine Apple merchandise, not knockoffs, and the service and ambience are real. (Unfortunately, he says, there are no real technicians, just helpful sales people.) Furthermore, he says, "The 'authentic looking' apple store is not the one with the "Stoer" sign! That's a ways down the block." He was even interviewed by TV news outside the store.
"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."
