iOS 12 Password Management

Post by Stephen Hart » Tue Sep 18, 2018 6:09 pm

After years of steadily absorbing features like suggesting strong passwords and remembering the ones you've got, iOS 12 now gives back to password manager developers. The new AutoFill lets your third-party password manager be on tap in more places and much more easily.

And I say "Thanks Apple!" The usefulness of 1Password in Safari on the Mac is fantastic. I use it many times every day to fill in passwords. But that functionality has been missing in iOS. You had to either copy and paste between two apps or reveal, remember and type the password. Both are laborious, and make the password requirements of some apps even worse.
That should be all over now.

Thanks for posting. I hadn't read anywhere about that new feature of iOS 12 ... and IMHO possibly the most useful.

Once having turned the feature on as per the article, login screens give the option of using a saved password (see screenshot).

Very cool! ;)

I just used this feature for the first time, and it works like a charm.
(I use 1Password for password management.)
