How do I open a Zip file that contains photos? I am running Snow Leopard; is there an old program available for this OS?

On an older Mac, I had at one time, I thought the zip files unzipped automatically with some already installed program on the Mac. Is that possible and I am not seeing it now?

Just double click the .ZIP. It should open automatically in the folder that has the .ZIP file in it.

Thanks Richard. That did it. I thought I had done that and nothing happened, but it did this time. It created a folder on my desktop with the pictures in it.

The Unarchiver is an app that can unarchive some formats that macOS won't open automatically.

Not to nag, but it's worth mentioning that we should never unzip a file unless we're absolutely sure where it came from and that it's legitimate. Even then, pay attention to any warnings macOS gives you.
