Here's what it does for me in Safari: Plays the video inline as it did with Ray's post.

Yeah. The movie plays right inside the post window when using Safari.

However, nothing happens when I click the link when using Camino, Firefox 4, OmniWeb, or Opera.

I can't explain why, but I suspect that it has something to do with installed plug-ins.

I'm still not getting any video showing for the QuickTime links. So for Jay's video with no sound, I get nothing. For Ray's video with sound, I only get audio, no controller, no video.

The only extension I have is Shortly.

Just as a bit of information, if I highlight the QuickTime movie links, the status bar shows a pointer to an anchor on the page. (The # sign is an anchor, the link's destination within a web page.) For the other movie, I get a link to a file.

BTW, I still don't see the QuickTime video in Firefox 3.x. It does act slightly differently from Safari, though. In Firefox, the QuickTime link pops me to the top of the page. In Safari on my iMac, it does nothing.
In Safari on my iPhone, the link also just pops me to the top of the page.

Restarting my iMac doesn't change anything. I'm baffled.

BTW2: On my iPhone, clicking Jay's download link causes an error message. "The server is not correctly configured."

BTW3: As far as I can see, there's no way to add an attachment from iPhone. I'll add a screenshot when I'm back to my Mac.

[Later] Here's the screenshot of the error message.

Is there a VLC plugin in your Internet Plugins Folder?

Just curious if one file in your internet plugins in either library folder is causing the issue. You could temporarily remove them as a test.

Just did that test. I removed all Internet plugins from my drive's Library. (All my internet plugins are there.) I restarted.

Safari still responds to your QuickTime link by popping me to the top of the page. That's as if there was a top-of-page anchor that the link is set to.

BTW, Karen's MacBook Pro also does the same thing, though that might not tell us much as she could have the same problematic setting.

So far, the only device I have that works with that link is a PowerBook G4 running Leopard.

Problem solved (sort of)

A couple of seconds ago, when I wrote "So far, the only device I have that works with that link is a PowerBook G4 running Leopard," a little bell rang in my head. So I just set Safari to start in 32-bit mode (Quit Safari, select Safari in hard drive > Applications, Choose Get Info).

Now both videos play fine for me on my iMac.

So it appears that something about how phpBB plays QuickTime in line fails when Safari is in 64-bit mode, at least on my iMac. If I switch back to 64-bit mode, the link stops working. Other QuickTime videos play fine for me in 64 or 32-bit mode.

That still leaves the issue of playing the videos on iPhone. Anyone else tried that?

Can one of you who can play the videos look to see if you have Safari set to 64 or 32?

BTW, this or something similar has been discussed in phpBB forums:

When I try to play the vid on the iphone it goes to the top of the page just like Firefox. I'm still on a G5 at home. When I click on my video on my work Intel Mac it does nothing but give the go to top of page link. I think we can consider the inline video request for the BB 'Busted'. Now, is there a way a user can have a custom skin to this BB so we don't have to put up with all the goofy graphics. Looks like it was designed by a Windows user.
