Text on a picture

I have a MacBook and want to place text on, (or in a field above or below) my pictures so I can use them in a slideshow. Can I do this in PHOTOS and if so how? Or do I need to download an app? If an app, which is the best for a novice user?

Thanks in advance
Dave

Use Preview, it has all the tools you need.

Another option is Keynote.

Also, you can google "Photoshop alternatives" and find many lists, including some free apps.

This can be done by just using Photos.

Just select all the photos you want to have in the slideshow, and from the File menu, select Create Slideshow and choose a name.

Then select the slideshow from the list on the left of the screen, choose the Themes icon on the right.

Then select a photo and click on the small plus icon in the lower right corner of the screen (first screenshot).

Choose Add Text and then type in the text field provided. (second screenshot) If Add Text is grey, choose a different theme.

Repeat the process for each slide.

Note that text can be easily edited by select the T box to the left of each slide icon.

;)

P.S. I learned how to do this by actually using the Help menu. (third screenshot)

I have used Preview and it is simple and easy to use to create a slideshow with captions/text/titlesl

I have also used PowerPoint when I wanted to add music.

Ray,
Maybe I missed something, but in Aperture, I think captions in exported slideshows are restricted to the "Caption" text in Aperture, which may be inappropriate for a slideshow. (In Aperture, the caption is the one and only text field you have to work with.)

So in this respect, it seems like Photos is a better tool for slideshows. It looks like Photos has picked up something from Keynote.
