Printer connection problem

My old modem died, so I have a new one. My computers are successfully connected to the new modem. My Canon printer tells me it is connected to the modem. However, when I try to print something, I'm told the printer is off line. Is there something else I need to do to create this 3-way connection: computer, router and printer?

Are you using the modem (DSL?) as an ethernet router? Or are you using WiFi?

In any case, if you've recreated the setup you had before, try going into System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Is your printer showing? If not add it.
If it does show, you could check its print queue.

If that doesn't work delete the printer. Then add it back.

Thanks, Steve. I had visited System Preferences multiple times and was concerned that 2 printers were listed - both my series printer. I deleted one of them and all is fine. Apparently, the printer recognized the second one but not the first, and the computer was trying to print from the first listed. (By the way this is a DSL modem for wireless connection.)

I just found three instances of a printer on one of our Macs' Printer lists.
This can happen if you change Macs, hard drives, change user names or change OS versions.
If the printer is connected with ethernet or directly by USB, this should be easily fixed by deleting all instances and adding the printer back.
If a user is connecting wirelessly, it might be a bit more complicated to get the printer online.
