The Latest Mac Threat: Cats

Post by Stephen Hart » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:35 am

There's a lively discussion on Macintouch about how to cope with cats that pee on computer monitors*.

The only suggestion that seems remotely sane is to shut the door.

I mean, whose house is it anyway?

* The original questioner raises cats.

Here's another cat threat that happened to us.

My wife hailed me from the office to say that a file was following her mouse pointer around on the desktop.
Using my elite Mac skills, honed by some 20 years of troubleshooting, I said "Huh?"

Upon looking, I saw that it was a .webloc file. Now it was behaving just like any file icon the desktop, just sitting there, but she insisted that it had been following her mouse pointer around just a few minutes ago.

After asking a number of questions, I solved the problem. Our cat had been sleeping on a Magic Trackpad on Karen's desk, presumably holding down the mechanical click button. Hence, the file icon had gotten clicked on and moving the mouse moved the file icon. Easy to understand, when you have all the facts!

Here's a Zen Koan that seems à propos:

"If there were no inside, would you still want to go outside?"

Back at you:
