iPhoto Library Manager

Post by DJ Bassett » Wed Apr 23, 2014 12:46 pm

After years of using a MAC and iPhoto, I have several iphoto libraries with thousands of images. Has anyone used iPhoto Library Manager 4.0.6?

I am hoping to put all of my iPhoto Libraries onto one dedicated external hard drive.

Any thoughts on this or of a better approach?

Thanks!

DJ

I've used it, but not extensively. From everything I've heard, consolidating iPhoto libraries would be one of its strengths.

FWIW, Aperture can import libraries: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5296?view ... cale=en_US

I'm less enthusiastic about iPhoto Library Manager for flagging duplicates. When I did that once, I had to compare each pair before I'd believe one was really a duplicate.

A couple of other thoughts:

Keeping a library (iPhoto, Aperture, iTunes) on an external drive can introduce some problems. If possible, I suggest you get a bigger internal hard drive if you're running out of space.

Make sure you're doing plenty of top-quality backing up. Among all files on our Macs, photos can be the least replaceable.
