Microsoft Lurches Toward Subscription-Only

Post by Stephen Hart » Fri Feb 22, 2013 8:06 am

You might have read that Microsoft has introduced two different subscription-based editions of Office, one for home use and one for business use. Because they are subscriptions, you have to pay every year.

But why not just keep using the regular retail product? Well, for one, Microsoft just increased prices about 15%. Furthermore, they introduced very strict licensing language that restricts use to a single PC, with no transfers allowed. ... transfers/

By the way, Adobe has also introduced subscriptions for their Creative Suite. They haven't mentioned any restrictions or price changes on the stand-alone suites, yet.
