It is a 2.5 GB update, so schedule accordingly.

I snagged iOS 10 while waiting at Koenig for my Subaru to get three tiny fixes. Even with their high-speed WiFi, it took a good half hour to download. And my iPhone, which was in my pocket, got toasty warm during the download.

Next stop: Safeway on Lincoln. I typed in my Apple ID password and was good to go. But in Safeway, as I kept looking at my shopping list, I was a bit flummoxed by the lack of "Swipe to open" on the lock screen. Now that I'm home, and have read about that change, all is copacetic.

Stephen, tell us more. I have not downloaded iOS 10 yet. But, how do you open a locked screen if 'slide to unlock" is not there? I have not read anything about this to date.

I'm not Stephen.

Just tap the HOME button.

Bob,

This is the new Lock Screen in iOS10 (see screenshot).

If you are requiring a pass code to unlock, it will appear on the next screen. If not, you go right to the Home screen.

And if you do swipe right from the lock screen, you will see the Lock Screen Widgets (that you can configure) - see screenshot.

Swiping left from the Lock Screen now opens the Camera app. Very handy!!

Swiping down from the top is still Notifications, and swiping up from the bottom is still Control Center (although improved).

There's also quicker access to the Camera app.

For example, my iPhone 6s wakes when I pick it up (or take it out of my pocket). A swipe from right to left starts the Camera app. That saves a couple of steps, making it more likely you'll get that Sasquatch photo!
You can still launch Camera from the Control Center or from the app icon.

If you have touch ID enabled, the click on the Home button instead of swipe to unlock does double duty.

If you have an iPad with an attached physical keyboard, one tap on any key wakes the iPad and one more tap unlocks the screen (equaling pressing the Home button).
