Notes for the developer beta 2 of El Capitan include mentions of current problems with Aperture and iPhoto, but with progress as compared with the beta 1 notes. It looks as if Apple's trying to address problems before release of El Capitan.

Here is more from MacLife:
Apple’s photo-management app already underwent a major overhaul as part of Yosemite’s 10.10.3 update, but El Capitan brings it to a new level. Photos is meant to be a replacement to both iPhoto and Aperture, and now Apple has restored one of the high-end features lost in the rewrite: third-party editing extensions. Photos already includes a nice set of tools for retouching your photos, but expert shutterbugs will now have a bevy of filters, effects, and actions right at their fingertips. And Apple has made it easier to organize your photos, too, with improved methods of naming, sorting, and tagging the things you snap.

The last I read, Aperture is no longer mentioned in the El Capitan developer notes. Presumably, bugs have been squashed.

Also, I just saw a notice that I had to quit Aperture and iTunes for App Store updates. When I went to App Store, no mention of Aperture was to be seen. But then, when I tried to open Aperture, I got a notice that "Aperture is being updated."

Once iTunes was updated to, Aperture opened. So maybe Apple rolled an Aperture update into an iTunes update. Weird.

So, along with new stuff El Capitan brings to Photos, it appears that Aperture isn't quite dead yet!

From today's Macintouch:
Bill Newby
Ken Spencer asked:
Is anyone running Aperture on El Capitan?
Seems to work as before El Capitan

Barry Abrahamsen
I haven't had any problems, either. I expect to continue with Aperture at least through 2016.

As far as I've seen so far, Aperture works in El Capitan exactly as well as it did in Yosemite (and Mavericks).

I haven't explored the plugins available for Photos yet, but plan to.
