So I tried out the feature of Yosemite where if you set up an e-mail with a way-too-large attachment, Mail offers to send a link by way of iCloud. Worked perfectly.

In fact, the content in question was a time-lapse video of actual clouds, taken from our deck.

By the way, setting up Mail Drop is not immediately obvious. You have to go to the Accounts tab of Mail Preferences, select the Account you want to send with, and then click on Advanced to find the appropriate checkbox. (see screenshot)
