Yosemite to be released today

Post by Stephen Hart » Thu Oct 16, 2014 10:38 am

I haven't gotten it yet, but today's release date has been announced.
As of 12:31 PM it's not available.

One thing I noticed even before getting the release version is that Dropbox has been updated for Yosemite. It worked before, but lost its contextual menu special items. They're back. And they added a nice big easily visible checkmark next to the Dropbox folder so you know it's up to date.

As of 3:30 PM, Yosemite is available for FREE using the App Store app ... a little over 5 GB of download.

Still not seeing Yosemite in App Store > Updates. I am seeing iTunes 12.0.1 (12.0 was in Yosemite beta), Keynote, Numbers and Pages. [Later] 1Password, Command Line Tools

5GB, eh. The various Yosemite beta updates have been fairly small patches. I hope that's the case with going from beta to final.

(Interesting that some people want to see iCloud Drive as a "Dropbox killer," but Apple's making changes in file formats to make Dropbox work better.)

I guess I'll let those download and if I still don't see Yosemite in App Store > Updates, I'll try clicking the button on the web page.

I hope this isn't a glitch in the supposedly smooth move from Yosemite beta to Yosemite [the real thing].

OK. I think I get it. Yosemite beta 6 is the same as the release version.
When I tried the link on the web page, I got a message that Yosemite was already installed.

[Later]
Now, at around 10:00 pm, I have five more updates, but no Yosemite.

Not quite. Our MacBook Pro, updated this morning, is at 10.10 14A389, my iMac is at 10.10 14A388B.

Explained:
If you're already running OS X Yosemite gold master release candidate 3 (GM 3) or public beta 6 (PB 6), you won't need to update to the final release version in the Mac App Store (MAS). While there are minor differences in build numbers between the versions, Apple is considering both GM 3 and PB 6 as "final" and not offering the MAS version to anyone with either of them already installed.
