safari

When i start up safari, it opens automatically in full screen and shows the sidebar. I would like to start up not in full screen and hide the sidebar. So far, I can only accomplish this by exiting full screen and hiding the side bar each time i start up safari. Any clues?

Some things to try:

Shrink Safari to normal window mode.
Hide the sidebar.
Optionally, go to Safari > Preferences > General and set up your preferred home page.
Now the crucial part: Quit Safari.

If that doesn't work, try Safari > Reset Safari > Close all Safari windows

If that doesn't work, quit Safari and navigate to yourusername > Library > Safari and drag LastSession.plist to the Trash. Don't empty the Trash.
Now restart Safari.

Thanks for the tips. What finally seems to work is to go to Preferences and set the new windows and tabs to homepage, quit Safari, restart the computer and voila, it's back to the way it was before Mavericks.
