True sync of iWork docs between Macs and iCloud

Post by Stephen Hart » Mon Jun 18, 2012 2:15 pm

Here's an interesting article about an unadvertised "dropbox" folder that works with iCloud.
It's a bit of a kludge, but it could be used, for example, to keep a copy of a document (including password protected) synced from the Mac to the iPhone.

One major problem:
The format for iWork documents is different on iOS than on the Mac. So once you convert a document to iOS-readable, you can't edit it on the Mac. I also don't see any way to convert it back to Mac format. I guess we could all hope that iWork 12 will be out this summer and it'll have true documents in the cloud.

There's a workaround if all you need to do is to read the document on the iPhone, instead of converting the document on the iPhone, make a copy and read that. Then delete the copy. That way edits on the Mac will be readable on the iPhone.
