Maybe a SMUG member has already figured this out:
Some time in the near future, I want to manage a calendar so my mother-in-law can read it on her iPad, but so she can't change anything. I also need to have the iPad secure so that no one else can access any of my data from her iPad, if she needs to be signed in as me.
She has her own iCloud account.

Looks like I would set up a calendar for my mother-in-law on my Mac, then share it privately with her and set it to View only. I think that'd be near perfect.
