Re: Simple Network Download Question

I would add two things: 1. Many times, slowdowns arise at the server. Apple often gets hit with huge numbers of requests, and can be slow. A day or so later, it can be fine. 2. Don't trust the time-to-completion displays. Today, I started an Adobe download of a plugin. I came back hours later and fo...

Re: Yahoo mail notices to upgrade browser

As far as I've ever read, Safari in iOS is built in and not independently upgradeable. So you can assume that your iPad has the latest Safari. Presumably Apple has iOS 5 close to ready to go, so there should be a pretty significant upgrade in the whole iOS pretty soon now. (Maybe announced along wit...

iCloud

Just to start off discussion about iCloud, here's a piece from NPR: http://www.npr.org/2011/06/04/136949130/music-industrys-blessing-lifts-hopes-for-icloud Of course, no one can write about Apple without a dig. Here's NPR's: " Because Apple has had such success with so many of its music products the...

Re: Apple Security Update Addresses MacDefender

One is tempted to imagine what would happen if Windows trojan horses were covered in the same way. All the content of all the online computer sites would be filled with nothing more than news of the latest Windows trojan horse mutants. Probably the New York Times too! Clearly there are some things A...

The Latest Mac Threat: Cats

There's a lively discussion on Macintouch about how to cope with cats that pee on computer monitors*.

The only suggestion that seems remotely sane is to shut the door.

I mean, whose house is it anyway?

* The original questioner raises cats.

Re: iPhone Duplicate US Holidays

It is the case that the US Holidays calendar on my Mac is On My Mac. (I can see that by using Get Info.) I'm guessing that the iPhone just has two subscriptions to this calendar. But I don't see any way to delete only one of them. Is there a way to get US Holidays via Mobile Me? Here's how I have th...

Re: iPhone Duplicate US Holidays

My original message was unclear. What I mean is that I seem to be subscribed to US Holidays twice on my phone, but only once in iCal on my Mac.
I'm syncing through MobileMe.

iPhone Duplicate US Holidays

This only happens on my iPhone, but I've got a duplicate of US Holidays. No problem on all the Macs I'm syncing with.
Any clues?

Re: Apple Security Update Addresses MacDefender

Apple's Security fixes have been bypassed already... the SAME evening as they were released. http://www.macnn.com/articles/11/06/01/may.test.os.automatic.definition.updates/ OK, but that inspires me to repeat, once again (deja vu anyone?), that there is no way for any computer maker or OS maker to ...

GMail 0, Hackers 1, Twitter No Show

Just in case you wondered why some people don't like the idea of trusting their e-mail to Google:

Or why some people avoid Twitter:
