Apple Science Profiles

Apple has long had a web section with profiles of Macs (and iPhones and iPads) used in science and medicine. I just discovered the podcast. It's mostly audio, with a static image for each section. And the narrators sound a bit robotic. But the stories are interesting, especially if you're interested...

Steve Jobs at the D8 Conference (Video)

I'm about halfway through this video podcast, and can recommend it highly. Tag-team interviewers vs Steve. Steve wins. (You may feel, as I do, that Walt Mossberg thinks it really is a wrestling match.) It's not just entertaining, it's enlightening. Steve talks about Apple's idea of what a company sh...

Re: Has anyone used CleanMyMac by MacPaw?

Not specific to this app, but I've never seen a computer cleanup app that I would recommend to anyone but a very knowledgeable person (like you, Dave). All the ones I've tried have flagged many files I knew to be necessary for some app or other. And all have flagged duplicates that I could see on in...

Re: Intel gives Apple early access to Z68 platform

This has always seemed to me the obvious first step toward an allSSD. SSD is still way too expensive to replace hard drives, but the prices will come down in the next few years. My favorite use of a huge SSD is for Time Machine. Not for the speed, but for the silence. The internal hard drive in my i...

iPhone Updates 05 04 11

Apple has posted iOS 4.2.8 for the CDMA (Verizon) iPhone 4 and iOS 4.3.3 for the GSM (AT&T) iPhone to patch privacy problems with its location tracking system. (The update is available via iTunes.) This update contains changes to the iOS crowd-sourced location database cache including: - Reduces th...

New Adobe Apps coming for iPad

Photoshop CS5 must be updated to 12.0.4 to interact with three new iPad apps that Adobe has designed to work with it - Adobe Nav, Adobe Color Lava, and Adobe Eazel. These apps will be available in the future on the App Store. The update to Photoshop includes a framework for apps to interact with it...

Re: emailing "Pages" document to "Windows" user

The procedure Richard details is the proper one for converting to a .doc file from Page. I would caution, however, that this is not likely to be a good workflow if you're sending a document back and forth several times. I that case, I'd use Word. iWork.com has been in beta. I've never seen an announ...

Windows-look security hoax=MACDefender

I read the quoted post on Macintouch today. Yesterday, I was helping my wife's mother with exactly the same popup. She was looking for information on house plant care. As far as I could tell over the phone, Safari crashed or hung up when the popup appeared, and only force quitting got her out of the...

:?:
According to one early adopter who reported on Macintouch, you don't need to choose:
If you purchase the computer at an Apple Store and choose the trackpad option, you end up with both trackpad and mouse in the end.
