Re: Photos App

Here's a Macworld page that explains how to search for multiple criteria including location . Bizarrely, instead of a criterion labelled "Location" ( that would be too easy), you search for tagged with GPS plus some text in the location name. Finding certain locations A smart album with the criteria...

iPhone Cases

I've never used a case for my iPhone, as I keep it in my jeans pocket almost all of the time. But I was intrigued enough when I read about the MNML Case iPhone Xs (Clear Transparent) to order one. It's only $15, so I figured I didn't have much to lose. The case is indeed minimal. It has no designs o...

Re: Photos App

But wait, there's more. A Smart Album can have more than one criterion line. In fact, you can do most all of what Aperture could do with the Filter HUD. See screenshot. So maybe I"ll just keep that Smart Album, but name it Advanced Search. You cannot add a rule to a Smart Album to specify location, ...

Re: Photos App

The next challenge was to find out how to figure out a location for photos that don't have one. In Aperture, you can choose Show in Project to see any photo in context. Then you can look at all the photos you took on that day and close times to see if you can determine the location.* But Photos does...

Re: Photos App

We thought about whether to keep our location names (for searching) as Keywords or as just text in the description, but ended up going with the simplest method, using text, entered on a new line. But there's a problem. First, Photos does not have any "Append to description" feature like Aperture's. ...

Photos App

I've posted many times about the dearly departed Aperture. I finally took the plunge and switched from Aperture to Photos 4.0 in Mojave. I used the handy utility PowerPhotos to import migrate my 763.83 GB Aperture library into Photos. The Photos library ended up as 843.43 GB, possibly because there a...

Now, some time later, the image is just black. I guess that's progress.

Re: iPhone XS Photography

Here's another experiment with the Portrait setting on an iPhone XS. This time I did a little tweaking of the apparent aperture, which affects the amount of background blurring, or bokeh. I did this after taking the photo. It's kind of magic to be able to adjust the bokeh like this. I also used one ...
