Re: reformatting hard drive

Yes, but the operating system on the disks is 10.4.8. I was hoping to pass on 10.6.8. I must have downloaded Snow Leopard because I do not have installation disks.

reformatting hard drive

I am giving away my old MacBook. I would like to erase the drive but retain the operating system. If I completely reformat the drive, can I drag the operating system (10.6.8) from my firewire back-up to the empty drive - or somehow install 10.6.8 from the external drive? I have booted the MacBook fr...

Diagnosing and Repairing a sick iMac

I returned from a trip to find my iMac frozen with a black box in the middle of the screen telling me in 5 languages that I needed to restart the computer. I have now learned that this is called a “kernel panic.” When I attempted to restart the computer, it turned on and gave me the familiar gray sc...

Re: My sick iMac

My iMac is 21.5" IC13/3/06 4GB/500 SD. I'm sure it is Lion compatible. I also have a new MacBook Air.

The only thing plugged into the computer is the keyboard. However, I did not disable my wireless modem.

Re: My sick iMac

I purchased it in 2011 with Apple Care. Do we have a registered Apple Care person on the Peninsula?

Re: My sick iMac

When I followed Richard's procedure, I was not given a 10.7 option. I selected the back-up drive, but it would not boot from that.

I'm getting really worried.

Re: My sick iMac

It will not boot from the installation CD. (I tried 3 times.) I get a string of messages in the left hand corner of the screen that begin "panic (cpu 0 caller ___etc.) In the middle of the screen is the same box on the screen when I found it frozen -- stating that I need to restart the computer.\ To...

My sick iMac

I returned from a 3 week trip to find my iMac screen frozen with a black box saying I needed to restart the computer. I shut it down and now find that I cannot boot it. Initially, I got the gray screen with logo and spinning dial - nothing more. I started to follow the instructions on this page and ...

Re: Need Quicken 2005

Thanks to Steve, Richard and Jerry for your comments. After Steve's post I did some further probing and ordered Quicken 2007 (old version) based upon this comment from Intuit. Hope that works for me.
