Safari Website Settings

We ran into an odd issue yesterday with Safari. We would open a page--on a forum somewhat similar to the Straitmac Forum--but instead of seeing the various messages, the screen would flash and a plain text version of one of the messages would appear. It looked like it was instantly (or at least quic...

Finder Action Button

I don't normally have the Action button enabled in my Finder Toolbar. But recently my son told me he'd found that the Finder has a useful Rename File feature within the Action button. See screenshot. (There are also stand-alone file rename applications.) Also, there are some actions that require the...

Re: Optical Disk Failure

It's nice to be able to switch the SuperDrive to any Mac, as well. I mostly have it plugged in to my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014), which has no internal SuperDrive. It fits nicely on the foot, and blends right in. I did add a layer of thin neoprene under the drive to prevent it scooting arou...

Re: Optical Disk Failure

We have had one failure of the DVD player in an iMac, circa 2010. I couldn't find a replacement internal player. Furthermore, opening that era iMac requires a lot of care because of delicate cables between the screen and the internals. (I've done it once.) But the solution is inexpensive and mostly ...

Re: Apple Card

More: Instead, Apple provides a virtual card number and virtual confirmation code (CVV) for the card in the app. You can use this for non-Apple Pay purchases online or over the phone. This number is semi-permanent, meaning that you can keep using it as long as you want. But you can hit a button to r...
