Re: iPhone X Setup

Thanks Ray. Here's where I got that impression: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/09/09/iphone-x-side-button/ I guess I should have been suspicious when they used "cuckoo" when they probably meant "dodo." The cuckoo is alive and well , thank you very much. BTW, Here's Apple's own page on iPhone X na...

Re: iPhone X Setup

Here's a question I haven't been able to track down definitely:
Is the side button (on the right side) a real button or a virtual one (with or without taptic feedback)?

Re: personal finance

We're still using Quicken. It's been spun off from Intuit, and I read recently that it's moving to a subscription payment model. There's an iOS companion app, but I haven't used it. We only use Quicken as a checkbook balancer and to keep track of a couple of savings accounts. We don't download trans...

Re: 1 Password

Pretty much none of the newsworthy security issues for individuals involve weak passwords. Most involve "social engineering," that is to say hackers and other criminals asking people for passwords and getting them. Pretty much all of the newsworthy security issues for companies involve horribly weak...

Re: 1 Password

I also use 1Password and echo Richard's Rave. I spent a good deal of time researching when I decided we needed to move from a text list to an actual password manager, and 1Password was the clear choice. It's updated frequently, and the developers appear to be responsive to feature requests and bug r...

Re: iPhone X Gesture Guide

FWIW, these thin plastic cases appear to ride below the glass surface, and shouldn't interfere with thumb swipes. $20 - $30.

Re: CarPlay

Here's a sort of CarPlay question maybe an experienced SMUG member can answer. What determines what plays automatically when an iPhone connects via BlueTooth? In our Outback, something starts playing automatically every time we start the car. (I've seen complaints about this, so maybe Subaru will ch...

Re: iPhone X Face ID

Quite right. An excellent choice for people who get a lot of calls while driving. I can use CarPlay (wired) or BlueTooth (which connects automatically, even if the iPhone is in my pocket) and answer the iPhone with a steering-wheel button, so it's not really an issue for me. I've done this a couple ...
