Re: New iMacs

I think that may have been a boo boo made by a store employee not yet trained in selling the new iMac. Apple didn't get as prosperous as it is by giving away merchandise. From what I've read you have the option of the mouse or the trackpad. We'll have to wait for more people to buy the new iMacs an...

Re: New iMacs

One more tidbit for this discussion:
Ric Ford [MacInTouch]
I just noticed that the Apple 27" LED Cinema Display is $999, so the 27" iMac costs $700 more than the monitor alone, yet it's far more powerful than a $700 Mac Mini.

Re: Apple TV

I believe I read that Apple TV is supposed to wake a sleeping Mac to get shared iTunes content. That doesn't seem to happen for us. Any SMUG clues? You will need to check the checkbox in the Energy Saver pane of System Prefs on your Mac labeled "Wake for Network Access". (see screenshot) ;) That's ...

Re: Apple TV

Richard Serkes wrote:"Do enough members do presentations?" Just what planet are you living on? It's always been a problem getting people to volunteer to do demos.
No, I meant to ask if there enough SMUG members who would be interested in watching a panel on how to do presentations.

I believe I read that Apple TV is supposed to wake a sleeping Mac to get shared iTunes content. That doesn't seem to happen for us. Any SMUG clues? Second question: How do you scroll back using Apple TV? We also watched some iTunes U content, and that was good. Watching an academic to a presentation...

Re: Password: Make that plural

However, note this item. This is not 1Password, but is a similar service. Ric Ford [MacInTouch] Password-storing service may have been hacked LastPass, one of the most popular password-storing services, announced Wednesday that it may have been hacked. The company is now asking many of its users to ...

Password: Make that plural

I don't know whether this guy's calculations are spot on— be sure to read this —but it's something to think about. Forgetting a password is a serious risk that could easily make data irretrievable. Bottom line of this article: use easy-to-remember words--three or more--as passwords instead of random...

Re: Windows security hoax

What I was helping with might have been the variant of MacDefender shown in this video. Note that this trojan horse does not bypass OS X's normal security. It requires several steps by the user. The video is worth watching. Count how many mistakes the user has to make. (This is like when people get ...

Re: Apple TV

We just watched our first Netflix content on Apple TV on a new 32" flat-screen TV. My impression is that the look and sound are better than on a MacBook Pro or a 27" iMac. First of all, there was no rebufffering. We just started watching and it just kept going. With the MacBook Pro, which is what I ...

Re: iPhone Reception Inside A Dead Fish

So here I am in Sodom & Gomorrah with neon lights watching one of the most intelligent shows around...Penn and Teller. Penn is a well known Apple buff. For their opening trick they made an audience member's iPhone disappear then reappear in a sealed box in the audience. We knew the iPhone was in th...
