I just meant that if Pages 09 works in High Sierra, it will surely work in any macOS older than that. It's pretty easy to open and save documents created in Pages 09 as Pages v7 documents. We have encountered a few legitimate sites that require pop ups to be available. I generally have that box unchecked, and I wonder if the popups and pounders have gone out of fashion or are blocked in some other way. In any case, I haven't seen one in quite a while.

With a Finder window open and in front,

Select View > Show Status Bar
You can also see the folder path with View > Show Path Bar

It's confusing. There are three separate places you can set preferences for the Finder.

As to app updates, it's best to rely on the App Store. Any software you installed from the App Store will update through the App Store only, and you can be 99 44/100% sure that's safe.
