Re: Apple reduces price on iPhone batteries

Actually, you can mail it in. Good to know. I hadn't seen that in print. The last time I used the express service--the iPhone 6s battery recall--I had to argue a bit to get express service, pointing out that traveling a minimum of 4.5 hours round trip without even knowing if the battery would be in...

Re: Apple reduces price on iPhone batteries

iPhones eligible for $30 battery replacement: 6, 6s, SE or 7. Apple Stores appear to be doing this, but may put you on a wait list. (I haven't seen any indication that Apple will do this by mail, let alone with "express" service (where they replace your iPhone, place a hold on your credit card, and ...

Re: Apple reduces price on iPhone batteries

Here's an explanation of how lithium-ion batteries work, and why Apple had to make some engineering choices for older, but not defective, batteries. http://appleinsider.com/articles/18/01/02/how-iphone-batteries-work-and-how-apple-manages-performance-over-time Also, some people are reporting that at...

Re: Finder has pinwheel of death

I wonder if leaving Finder "open" is allowing some odd quirks? I will make sure to close it after every use. Leaving a Finder window open should have no effect. It is possible to force quit the Finder, but it will immediately reopen. Maybe leaving a dozen Finder windows open is a bad idea. Ah, an e...

Re: Finder has pinwheel of death

Hard to tell what the problem is, but it sounds like the external drive isn't mounting properly, or isn't accessible to the Finder. If it's making any kind of unusual noise, switch it off and don't turn it back on right away. If it's not making any unusual noise, shut down the Mac, then switch off t...

Re: Apple reduces price on iPhone batteries

iFixit has dropped its price for battery-replacement kits, matching Apple's new price: https://www.ifixit.com/Kits Note that you have to do the dissection yourself, and if it doesn't go back together properly, you are responsible. I know of one iPhone user that made his own repair and slightly misal...

Calls Not Ringing

We ran into an issue recently that's worth remembering. My wife was getting calls but her iPhone wasn't ringing. Whenever I tested by calling her, her iPhone would ring normally. It turned out she had somehow turned Do Not Disturb on Globally. That prevents all calls from ringing except favorites an...
