Re: iPhone X Gesture Guide

As shown in the video, many of the iPhone X gestures require swipes from the very bottom of the screen. For that reason I modified my Griffin Survivor Strong case, cutting off the bottom ridge. Using gestures is much easier now! ;)

Re: ApplePay

I have used Apple Pay at Walgreens, Starbucks, and McDonalds ... all in Sequim. Works great using either iPhone or Apple Watch. ;)

One thing I haven't seen addressed is waking an iPhone X with Face ID while driving. That seems more dangerous than using Touch ID.
Consider not using your iPhone at all while driving. Apple has actually encouraged this with the "Do not disturb while Driving" setting. (see screenshot)

Re: Apple Update Server

I didn't have any problem ... either with my iMac or my MacBook Pro.
I presume that you are referring to the 10.13.1 update.

Re: iPhone X Setup

A few more small snags: First, I got a friendly reminder to turn off "Find my iPhone", but it didn't say which phone. It turns out that I had to turn it off on the iPhone X to proceed. (first screenshot). Once I did that, I got a dialog box on my Mac asking for THE backup password (second screenshot...

Re: iPhone X Setup

One more snag: Restoring from iTunes started off well with a confirming message on my iMac (first screenshot). But then I got this message ... (second screenshot) The problem is that my old iPhone had been updated to iOS 11.1 and the new iPhone was still using iOS 11, so I had to resort to setting u...

Re: iPhone X Setup

So let me get this right. You didn't need to restore from a backup stored by iTunes? Did it transfer everything, or do you then need to sign in again to everything? (An encrypted backup in iTunes has "everything.") Or is it using an iCloud backup (which is limited)? How long was the transfer proces...

Hey Ray,
How about a post to the SMUG forum from your new X asap Friday?
O.K. I have started a new thread to describe the setup process.

iPhone X Setup

Well, I got my iPhone X about 2:30 on Friday, Nov. 3 ... and couldn't believe how easy it was to set up: 1. After opening the box, a press of the side button brought up a bright, crisp "Hello" screen, which prompted me to "Swipe Up" (first attachment). 2. After choosing "English" as the language to ...
