iPhone and iPad Backup without iTunes!

With macOS Catalina your Mac backup of an iPhone or iPad will happen in the Finder ... with the device mounting just like an external hard drive. (see screenshot) ;)

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and Touch Bar

Can you still also get the simulated F keys with the fn keyboard key? Stephen, Well, I have never used function keys, so frankly I didn't even miss having them on the MacBook Pro ... and I never used the functions keys with Keyboard Maestro either. I would say that you will need to do some experime...

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and Touch Bar

And once you have launched BetterTouchTool a small icon is always visible on the Touch Bar that acts as a toggle to switch from the BetterTouchTool touch bar to Apple's touch bar, and back again. Handy!

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and Touch Bar

Stephen, I just popped for BetterTouchTool, and yes it does make the Touch Bar much more useful. I then added a few buttons to insert text and a few to launch apps. (see photo) Cool! I also plan to keep my Keyboard Maestro shortcuts, however. Being able to type my Apple ID password with a single key...

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and Touch Bar

One of the first things that I noticed on my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is that there is no dedicated power button. It took me a little while to discover that the far right hand half inch of the Touch Bar which is used for Touch ID also doubles as the power button. (see screenshot). In my case, I ha...

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and USB C

My first thought is that the direct hub eliminates the wire, which would probably be the first component to get damaged. My second thought (not confirmed) is that since the direct hub uses both USB-C ports on the left side of a MacBook Pro, transfer speeds may be faster. The dual connection also pro...

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and USB C

Stephen, But to get to your original question, yes I do have experience with a HyperDrive adapter that was purchased to use with my MacBook Pro (see screenshot). The thinking was that I would need an HDMI port to do presentations at user group meetings. At this point, the adapter rarely gets used. N...

Re: MacBook Pro 2019 and USB C

Stephen, Like you, I am currently thinking about USB-C ... since I just bought a new iMac from Costco last week. The new iMacs now have two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports in place of the almost square Thunderbolt ports that were on my old 2015 iMac. I had purchased my current 6Tb Lacie external HD spec...

Re: Mojave... So Far, So Good

Stephen, Interesting. On my mid 2015 iMac, News 4.2 (under Mojave 14.4) does work, including Links and Share ... although I do get the same symptom regarding "Add to Safari Reading List". (see screenshot) And I find that occasionally when a link will not work, adjusting the size of the News window f...
