Re: El Capitan won't install

I assume the AppleCare tech suggested this, but if you can see the internal drive in Disk Utility, did you try partitioning it again? Disk Utility will guide you as to which settings to use. In any case, if it were me, I'd get Apple to replace the drive. UPDATE: Called Apple Support again because u...

Re: El Capitan won't install

I have temporarily solved the problem by creating a new boot disk on a Firewire drive, which I could then restore my Time Machine backup to. So my Mini works for the moment, but obviously I have to deal with the potential hardware problem. I agree it's odd that a drive less than a year old would fai...

Re: El Capitan won't install

The multiple-language screen you saw was a kernel panic. That usually means something seriously wrong with the software or hardware. El Capitan won't install

And worse, my Mac Mini now appears to be a paperweight. bAsically I downloaded El Capitan. i made a bootable flash drive installer ( so I could install to two computers) and installed from that flash drive. it took 1 1/2 hours or so, then left me with a screen saying to restart, which I did. it will...

Article on Mac User Groups in NYT

From the New York Times, an interesting article on what they consider to be the dying-off of user groups: http://tinyurl.com/pde77ql Or http://www.nytimes.com/2015/09/09/technology/personaltech/apple-mac-user-groups-devotees-press-on.html?emc=edit_ct_20150910&nl=technology&nlid=70354856&_r=0 Chris

Re: Update Safari

Hi, Bob- I'm having the same issue for some time now. I keep getting messages that my browsers (Safari 5.1.10 and Chrome 38.0.2125.122) are out-of-date and won't be updated. I have a Macbook1,1 (1.83 GHz circa 2006) and Snow Leopard (10.6.8) is as far as I can go. However, I recently discovered that...
