Strange loss of mouse input

I hardly know what to call what happened to my 11" macbook air yesterday. So I will describe it: I came home after work and went in to check my email. The macbook was frozen, with several applications open. I tried to close some by using the mouse to click on the x. I could move the cursor, but when...

Re: backup files of Word documents

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have tried to do exactly that, but I cannot get it to work. I made up a folder that I named "word backups." Then I went to the place where it lists file location, clicked on AutoRecover files, and then modified the location to the folder I had made. Then I clicked O...

Re: backup files of Word documents

I can't remember if I updated Office or Word. I quite often get these little notices that an update is ready to be installed. So it is possible. I have Office for Mac 2011, and I really do like it. There are some newer versions of Office that are so totally different from the older versions. At my w...

Re: backup files of Word documents

The solution: I Googled this topic, and soon found out that I was not alone. A lot of people were complaining about this flood of backup files. The solution is this: Open Word, go to Preferences/Save, and uncheck "Always create backup copies." I cannot remember having checked this, so I don't know w...

backup files of Word documents

Suddenly, for some reason, I am getting backup files of all of my Word documents. This never happened before. I could understand if there had been a crash, and the files were saved as backups, but that has not happened. So now, when I open Finder, and look in a folder, there are twice as many files ...

Re: mouse problems

Just to report that your good advice proved its worth again, already. This time it was a wireless bluetooth keyboard. I had not used it since I got my new Air, and when I tried to use it again it immediately thought it belonged to the old computer. But I did as you suggested, so that was an easy fix...

Re: mouse problems

Thanks for the advice. I will remember that next time. In fact, I will write this down. It's bound to happen again sometime. It never occurred to me to go to system /preferences.

Re: mouse problems

Thanks for the advice. What I finally did, out of desperation, was this: I shut down the old macbook entirely. As soon as I did that the magic mouse paired up with the macbook air. Like there was suddenly no problem. I then rebooted the old macbook, and no more problems. I do not really understand t...

mouse problems

I have recently been having problems getting my new MacBook Air to find the mouse. I have an Apple super mouse (I guess you call it that, white with the smooth surface). It had always worked really well. I have two lap tops sitting side by side on a desk. the older macbook has always had its own blu...

Update

An update on Wi-Fi while travelling 1. Our first hotel in Copenhagen had a very complicated access to Wi-Fi. It was free, but consisted of a voucher with an 8-digit username, and a 6-digit password. It was very clumsy, and would time out if there was no activity for more than a few minutes. They tri...
