problem solved

In my previous post "need advice", I listed several problems that I was having with my new IMac. Thanks to David Hannon at www.blueskymactech.com, all of these problems have been solved. I now have a correctly operating computer again. Thank You very much Dave.

Re: Need advice

my cable service is through Wavecable, and I use their mail server. I have not tried another browser yet. When I send email, I log into the Wavecable website and that works - I keep their icon on my desktop. I do have a Macbook pro and have no trouble sending mail using the mail icon on it, so it's ...

Need advice

I’m having lots of problems with my 4 month old IMac. For starters, I can receive, but not send mail from the mail app. I spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Apple to no avail. Another problem I have is a hard time getting on Safari, facebook and gmail. Most of the time I get a white page and it fre...

Re: Log in

Problem solved - I think. My laptop has opened up the last 2 mornings without requiring a password, and what I did does not make any sense. I went to: preferences>security& privacy>general, and changed "require password" (which was not checked, and never was) from "immediately" to "8 hours".I had to...

Re: Log in

Right now an automatic software update sounds plausible, but I'm heading home tomorrow and it's a 5 day auto trip. I'll do more research when I get home. Thanks for your input.

Re: Log in

My user name is in the menu bar, where its always been. I almost never shut it down. When I'm finished I'll just close the lid. If I open it within an hour +- my desktop comes up, If it is closed much longer, overnight for example, the screen is black and then the sign in box appears. This started a...

I have my macbook with me. If something got changed, I don't know how that happened, I haven't been in there since I bought it 2 years ago. Here are my settings:

Re: Log in

Yes - by log in I mean "enter name and password". I did check > Security & Privacy > General: nothing is checked. I also checked > Users & Groups, per your suggestion. My name is listed with Login Options > automatic login. I set this up 2 years ago when I purchased it and have had no trouble until ...

I've been in AZ for the past month and always leave my Macbook pro plugged in and in sleep mode when not using it. All of a sudden today it started requiring me to log in each time I wake it to use it. I've looked at System Preferences and everything is unchecked just like it has been since I bought...

Re: Weird problem

Not Correct - it is the header on my incoming mail. As I get more mail, some of it is correct and some of it has this problem. Also it is showing up in my saved letters from years ago. I'm blaming it on my old computer and will be upgrading soon.
