New in iOS 11

Here are two handy things new to iOS 11 (unless I missed them earlier): 1. Magnifying glass In Control Center, a magnifying glass with a plus in it turns your iPhone into a magnifying glass. I previously used a little app called Lumin for this purpose. It's extremely handy if you find you've forgott...

Re: iPhone X "Emergency" screen

Just squeeze it! --- Is that a song title?
And if not, why not?

Re: iPhone X Setup

Another solution is to simply turn off the Siri side button option. (see screenshot) I'm pretty sure I won't need to do that. The problem I used to have was when crouching down to load and unload our front-loading washer and dryer. Somehow that'd squish the iPhone 6s and trigger Siri. But if I turn...

Re: iPhone X Setup

It is interesting (to me, anyway) that even though I have turned on "Hey Siri" on both my iPhone and Apple Watch, the correct one replies In one of the several times I was setting up my iPhone X today, both my iPhone X and my iPhone 6s were responding when I said "Hey Siri," as part of training the ...

Re: iPhone X Photography

I'm eager to test the iPhone X camera. I guess we'll probably have some good weather by next June. :(

Re: iPhone X Setup

My iPhone X arrived this afternoon, and I proceeded to set it up by restoring from the latest backup (this afternoon) from my 6s. I immediately ran into an issue I've seen before, but had forgotten. New iPhones often arrive with an out-of-date iOS version and can't be restored from an up-to-date bac...

Re: iPhone X Setup

Thanks Ray. Here's where I got that impression: http://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/09/09/iphone-x-side-button/ I guess I should have been suspicious when they used "cuckoo" when they probably meant "dodo." The cuckoo is alive and well , thank you very much. BTW, Here's Apple's own page on iPhone X na...

Re: iPhone X Setup

Here's a question I haven't been able to track down definitely:
Is the side button (on the right side) a real button or a virtual one (with or without taptic feedback)?

Re: personal finance

We're still using Quicken. It's been spun off from Intuit, and I read recently that it's moving to a subscription payment model. There's an iOS companion app, but I haven't used it. We only use Quicken as a checkbook balancer and to keep track of a couple of savings accounts. We don't download trans...
