Re: Phishing

Yes, maybe even more than the usual number of English errors. People at Microsoft, I think, hypothesize that it's intended to filter out the skeptical before the chain of links begins. I've seen some phishing attempts that begin "Excuse my bad English..." "in that of crime engagement" "You need prov...

Phishing

I've seen some nasty-looking phishing emails, ones that might fool or at least frighten some people. But sometimes I wish I had a Mac lab set up so I could click on the links and see what happens. This one is almost funny (except for the criminal intent). And yes, it appears they did just rip off th...

Apple vs Monterey Bay Aquarium

Scientific community up in tentacles over Apple's 'upside down' squid emoji This seems to have arisen by using a widely copied drawing of a squid with the ventral (lower) side up (for classroom dissection). squid_external_labeled.GIF https://www.biologycorner.com/worksheets/squid_dissection_teacher...

Re: Photos App

More Photos Tips I've been working through thousands of images adding descriptions and locations. I'm putting both in the Description field. Having some description is better than none, of course. And I'm putting text of the location in the Description field as well because that seems future-proof....

Re: Photos App

More Photos Tips When looking at a set of photos, you can open the Info window to get several bits of information about a selected image. At the bottom, there's a small street map. It's still somewhat mysterious to me how Photos knows how to show the location in that map, but I'm pretty sure it rea...

Re: Photos App

Here's a Macworld page that explains how to search for multiple criteria including location . Bizarrely, instead of a criterion labelled "Location" ( that would be too easy), you search for tagged with GPS plus some text in the location name. Finding certain locations A smart album with the criteria...

iPhone Cases

I've never used a case for my iPhone, as I keep it in my jeans pocket almost all of the time. But I was intrigued enough when I read about the MNML Case iPhone Xs (Clear Transparent) to order one. It's only $15, so I figured I didn't have much to lose. The case is indeed minimal. It has no designs o...

Re: Photos App

But wait, there's more. A Smart Album can have more than one criterion line. In fact, you can do most all of what Aperture could do with the Filter HUD. See screenshot. So maybe I"ll just keep that Smart Album, but name it Advanced Search. You cannot add a rule to a Smart Album to specify location, ...

Re: Photos App

The next challenge was to find out how to figure out a location for photos that don't have one. In Aperture, you can choose Show in Project to see any photo in context. Then you can look at all the photos you took on that day and close times to see if you can determine the location.* But Photos does...
