One possibility is that after telling you there were batteries available, and receiving your iPhone, the repair site didn't have any batteries. Rather than disappoint you, they sent a refurb. It's sometimes a pain to find a replacement for an app that's no longer being updated. But sometimes it works out for the best. Case in point the painful transition I made from QuicKeys to Keyboard Maestro. Now that I'm adjusted to the change, I use KM extensively.

And here's a guide to creating ringtones in GarageBand in iOS. It's even a bit simpler in iOS as you can Share the audio as a ringtone.
