Re: Dashboard Weather Widget

I tried this on a couple of computers running macOS Sierra and Mojave- the Weather app does not connect even to the default Cupertino location. I believe Dashboard is a dead feature. Apple has moved on to the Notification Center, which is on the "modern" OS versions, I'm unsure if El Cap has it. If ...

Re: Apple Update Server

macOS 10.13.2 is available. But rather than downloading any update from the App Store, I would advise going to https://support.apple.com/downloads and downloading the desired update from there. If your internet connection is interrupted (or is very slow) the worst that will happen is your download w...

Re: Internet provider

I have used Nikola for several years now, and they are excellent. They cover areas where there is no other option, like where I am near the Dungeness NRA. They do not have Wave Broadband speeds, but what I get (5mbps) is fast enough for what I do, including streaming through DirecTV, Apple TV, Roku,...

According to Tidbits, Microsoft Office 2011 will not run on High Sierra. Or at least it is not tested or certified to run. We'll see...

While I haven't heard anything, I'm concerned Quicken 2007 won't run either.

Re: iPhone Recycling

You can find the instructions for wiping your phone here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351 Make sure you sign out of iCloud and Find My iPhone first. An iPhone 4s is worth about $20. When I upgraded from an iPhone 5 I sold it to MacTraders, but I'm not sure if there's a market for the 4s. Wo...

Re: Opinion Poll regarding SMUG dues for 2017

Before you vote on this informal poll, you may wish a few facts and figures. This year, out of 209 members (after the roster was pruned), we had 81 paying the $12 dues. The year before, 99 paid the $24 dues (some were of course discounted if you paid early). Historical Paid Membership Numbers: 2009 ...
